Halloween Safety Tips:
1. Be visible. Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags, or carry glow sticks and flashlights to help drivers see you.
2. Choose safe costumes. Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent tripping, and avoid masks that block vision. Face paint is a safer alternative.
3. Stay on sidewalks and crosswalks. Cross only at intersections, look both ways, and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
4. Check treats before eating. Discard anything unwrapped or suspicious, and keep homemade goods only from trusted friends or family.
5. Supervise children. Young trick-or-treaters should be accompanied by an adult. Older kids should travel in groups and carry a phone for quick check-ins.
6. Keep pets indoors. Costumes, noise, and crowds can be stressful for animals—keep them secure during the evening.
