Before- and after-school care programs give parents peace of mind while providing kids with nutritious snacks, homework help, and time for play. The United Way of Bay County helps fund two Bay County programs.

Before- and after-school care programs provide kids with a safe environment alongside homework help and fun activities. 

Child-care expenses often are out of reach for families earning less than $76,000 in Bay County.
Families face challenges in paying for basic necessities, even when wages rise

Nearly half of Bay County families are making less money than it costs to live here. Nicole Luczak from the United Way of Bay County recently explained how quickly working families can find themselves unable to make ends meet.

United Way of Bay County announces its 2024-26 impact partners

After considering the needs of the community, the United Way of Bay County has announced its partners for its next funding cycle. The two-year cycle begins now and ends in 2026.

YAC members make sure students start the school year strong

Local teens make sure all kids have what they need to feel confident on the first day of school. The Helen Wirt Lee Back 2 School Clothing/Backpack Program is accepting applications now for the 2024-25 academic year.

The 2024 program is called "Adventure Begins at Your Library," provides materials for parents to keep kids engaged in learning over the summer. Worksheets and other materials also are available at the Literacy Council of Bay County and online.

Keeping the kids engaged in learning over the summer is important. It's also not as difficult to do as you might think.

The Literacy Council provides the training and tools needed to work with children or adults.

The Bay County Literacy Council combats low literacy rates among young children with after-school and summer programs. Tutors are needed for both programs.
