BAISD Career Center introduces fourth graders to career possibilities
Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center welcomes fourth graders and their families for hands-on activities and an early introduction to career and technical education opportunities.
Career exploration starts with curiosity. Each year, the Bay-Arenac ISD (BAISD) Career Center welcomes approximately 1,250 fourth-grade students for a firsthand look at career and technical education, giving young learners an opportunity to explore new interests and discover possibilities for their future.

The Career Center recently welcomed fourth graders and their families from Bangor Township Schools, Essexville-Hampton Public Schools and Bay City Public Schools for a day of hands-on learning and career exploration.
Students and families toured Career Center programs, participated in activities and learned about the career pathways available through career and technical education (CTE). The visits introduced students to opportunities they may not have encountered otherwise and helped connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world careers.
“Career exploration shouldn’t begin when students are getting ready to graduate. It should start when they’re young, curious, and excited about what the future might hold,” says Josh Little, Director of Career and Technical Education. “By welcoming fourth graders and their families into our Career Center, we’re helping students see the possibilities available to them and begin making connections between their interests, education, and future careers.”
The annual visits also give families a better understanding of the programs available through the Career Center and encourage conversations about students’ interests, strengths and goals as they move through school.
For some, the experience is one they remember long after fourth grade.
“Our Career Center students, and many of the fourth-grade chaperones, still remember their own fourth-grade visit to the Career Center and the impact it had on them,” says Brian McBride, Career Center principal.
Those lasting impressions speak to the value of introducing students to career opportunities early. By experiencing different programs firsthand, students can begin to recognize interests and consider pathways they might not have otherwise explored.
“When students have an opportunity to see and experience different careers firsthand, it can open their eyes to possibilities they may have never considered,” Little says “Our hope is that every student leaves knowing there are exciting opportunities waiting for them and that their future is full of possibilities.”
Through its annual fourth-grade visits, the BAISD Career Center helps students and families better understand the connection between education and future careers, encouraging young learners to explore their interests and consider what comes next.
